Blessed

During this Lent season, it is important that we remember how God gave us what we enjoy now. We must look at the cost of grace that change everything for good, for us.

Psalm 34 beautifully follows from one of the most endearing psalms about God’s greatness. Here the song praises God for his goodness. He thanks God for answering his cry for help. God delivered him from all his fears. Now that is a big claim to make. There are not many people who can say that.

He also thanks God for the “radiance” that has come to his life. He says, those who look to him are radiant, they’re protected from the shame of defeat and guilt. They can live without fear or shame.

Finally, he thanks God for his protective grace. He is surrounded by God and his angels. He can’t lose with God on his side.

Now we must ask what God did to turn our curse into blessing. How can God call us blessed now.

The answer actually comes from the text itself. Psalm 34:7 describes our condition now. We are surrounded by God. He is near us.

The reason we are blessed is because about two thousand years ago, the darling of heaven, the beloved Son of God came. He took our place in God’s judgment, which meant, he became sin for us. This explains why on the cross, Jesus lamented his separation from his Father. He was separated from God in our place.

This is why, when we turn to him in faith, he sees as as righteous, precious, acceptable, and dearly loved. Through his son, our Lord Jesus, we can pray, be delivered from all fears, and live closely and intimately with him.

Say I’m blessed, because, in Christ, you truly are!
